A new, longform synopsis, set photo, and cleaner version of an image that ran in earlier this year in the French press have arrived for the film. Once again, Gray has paired up with Joaquin Phoenix for their fourth collaboration, with Jeremy Renner and Marion Cotillard co-starring. The film chronicles the immigrant experience in what is the director’s first period picture. And Gray drew on his own family history to help weave the story together.
“I remember very well, my grandparents who spoke almost no English, who spent a lot of their time really wishing they were back in Russia, which I never understood. But they clearly had trouble fitting in, and I found that very powerful and very sad, and it’s a very emotional idea to me, and I know how lonely they were in many respects. And I suppose I’m trying to come to grips with that,” the director told us earlier in the year.
No word yet on a release date, but we’ll put money on it that Harvey Weinstein will bring the film to the Cannes Film Festival in May to screen for a French press and critical community that has made no secret of their adoration for the director. Synopsis below:
1920. In search of a new start and the American dream, Ewa Cybulski and her sister Magda sail to New York from their native Poland. When they reach Ellis Island, doctors discover that Magda is ill, and the two women are separated. Ewa is released onto the mean streets of Manhattan while her sister is quarantined. Alone, with nowhere to turn and desperate to reunite with Magda, she quickly falls prey to Bruno, a charming but wicked man who takes her in and forces her into prostitution. And then one day, Ewa encounters Bruno’s cousin, the debonair magician Orlando. He sweeps Ewa off her feet and quickly becomes her only chance to escape the nightmare in which she finds herself.

I thought the movie called low life ? …. whatever …. beautifull pics
What is going on with his right hand?
Looking forward to see another great performance from Jeremy!! Regards from Spain!!
He is a reptile brain-left handed…I bet he is rh negative too! That statement is not an insult!
Sexy sexy sweet prince. ☺
OMG I heard Bourne Legacy will have a sequel to it
Way to go Jeremy
You deserve the best roles and trucks of Oscars
You are about to be busier than ever as projects will be rolling one after another. Have a Blast
I am really looking forward to this one! I’m not one to wish the days to pass, but 2013 is looking good!
Titsy, I was wondering the same thing. Maybe he’s referencing something in his pocket? LOL
J-Ren in a period piece?
YES PLEASE!
Coolshades, may be thats the reptile Erica was referring to. I dont know what she means about being rh negative.
yey i hope we’re going to see a lot of jeremy renner movies next year!
I’m with Titsy and Coolshades…what IS going on there? I’m glad they have a new title for this. I like the expanded premise…it makes the movie sound more interesting now.
Love the look of the film!! Can’t wait to see it XD But first is first. I want to see “Hansel & Gretel”
Titsy-lmbo! Reptile brain means what side of the brain you use and usually when you are left handed its the opposite side of the brain (meaning right side). RH negative is your blood factor. A lot of people who are left handed also seem to be rh neg. Like most of our US Presidents (who are all related to each other except for one). I am rh negative (O negative, a universal donor) and they say that you are drawn to the same…which would mean he is rh negative-by theory only…he has a lot of the same characteristics! But even if he isn’t he can still carry the recessive gene. Being of Irish decent, there is a good chance he is!
Why am I even saying this-lol I guess you also get biology lessons on his site…lol
That is also my theory on why Brad Pitt left Jennifer for Angelina…Brad and Angelina are both rh negs! Its actually referred to as “blue bloods.” Total theory…lol
Steve Mcqueen also O neg.
Wow Erica, that exlains why Im interminably boring – Im rh positive!
Your joking-right…you are the last person I would call boring-or are you making fun of me?
I’m not making fun of you, Erika. That was just a joke. I tell you what my friend told me only 15% of caucassians are rh negative.
I think its 15 percent of the world’s population are rh negative and 85 percent positive-could be wrong. But you don’t have to be caucasion, Obama is rh neg. The majority- however- is of European decent…mainly Scandinavian, Irish or Basque decent. But its weird because people that I take an interest in are usually rh neg…it doesn’t matter if its an athlete, actor or even friends.
Robert Pattinson and Kristin Stewart are also rh neg-so it goes to show they don’t always stay together-kind of knocking my theory about Brad and Angelina-lol
Its also funny because rh negs are supposed to be decendants of Vlad the Impaler (Dracula) Robert and Kristin play vampires, funny connection.
You stated that you are rh positive but that doesn’t mean you don’t carry the rh neg gene.
Just one more thing to add-if you watch the Bourne Ultimatum they will show Matt Damon’s character-David Webb (his dog tag) as O neg… I think its David Webb, before they turned him in to Jason Bourne.
Are you of German decent because you keep on spelling my name with a K and not a c…?
I stand corrected-only 5 percent world-wide…
@Titsy – I think he’s offering her his arm? So she can slip her hand around his elbow and they go walking maybe? It’s a nice picture.
Cat, may be he is offering his reptile. Lol. EricaNo, no German blood at all. Just misspelled.
lol-i really think its the angle of the photo.
I learned the word “reptile” from Erica
=)
well his a magician maybe his planning a surprise with the other hand the art of illusion, i do wonder how good is his magician character is, is he mostly illusionist or the basic magician that uses obvious props trying to fool the eye to look else where.
He looks like Charlie Chaplin with his eyeliner. I will find his portrayal implausible. And did he just remember his fly was open?
