The release of Paramount and MGM’s Hansel & Gretel: Witch Hunters 3D — starring Jeremy Renner, Gemma Arterton and Famke Janseen — is being pushed back two weeks to Jan. 25 in order to also play in Imax theaters.
Hansel & Gretel will kick off Imax’s 2013 schedule.
“The Imax experience continues to be the most immersive and entertaining way to see films and we are thrilled to be releasing Hansel & Gretel: Witch Hunters 3D now in late January so moviegoers have an opportunity to see the film in this way,” said Megan Colligan, Paramount president of domestic marketing and distribution.
Chairman and president of Imax Filmed Entertainment Greg Foster said the film’s action and visuals are a perfect fit for the format.
Will Ferrell and Adam McKay’s Gary Sanchez Prods. is producing Hansel & Gretel, which picks up the Brothers Grimm fairy tale 15 years after Hansel and Gretel found the gingerbread house. They’re now bounty hunters. Tommy Wirkola directed and wrote.
Pushing back the film’s release by two weeks is a minor move compared to the studio’s earlier decision to relocate the film’s opening in theaters from March 2012 to Jan. 11, 2013.
The reasons for the first move were twofold: Paramount wanted more time to market the film’s 3D aspect, while Renner had two other 2012 films, The Avengers and The Bourne Legacy. Pushing back Hansel & Gretel allowed the movie to benefit from the exposure Renner earned from those two films.

In Spain we´ll have to wait more, almost certainly.
Anyway I hope it will be a simultaneous premiere, indeed in Europe we goit earlier The Avengers, so it could be…
Anyone knows if this is going to be a franchise or only a single movie?
It will be worth the wait. Ahhhh Jem jem. ☺ xoxoxoxoxo.
To Joaquim. I think that they maybe want (wanted?) doing more that one movie but until this one came out who knows.
His director told this: “The idea is, they’ve grown up and they hunt witches. It’s a hybrid sort of old-timey feeling, yet there’s pump-action shotguns. Modern technology but in an old style. We heard it and we were just like, ‘That’s a freakin’ franchise! You could make three of those!’ http://www.firstshowing.net/2009/tommy-wirkola-tackling-hansel-and-gretel-witch-hunters-next/
Sorta off topic (it’s about Bourne rather than H&G) but I found something that I wanted to share. I was reading an on-line interview with Rachel Weisz regarding Bourne Legacy and she says the following about Jeremy:
“Q: When does ego step in and allow you to ask for a stunt double?
A: I would say about 99% of the time Jeremy and I were doing the stunts. Jeremy is a really good rider. He is just very physically adept at stunts. He is agile and fluid and beautiful to watch. I felt safe with him. We practiced for a couple of weeks in a big parking lot.”
Fluid? Agile? Beautiful to watch? Oh yeah, she got that right!

To Takahashi, thanks !!!
So if it works it would be the fourth franchise for Mr. Renner…
Really I wish this movie works, it would be his own and first “original” franchise, I mean, he doesn´t appear till the fourth films of both M:I and Bourne, I know this is more an independent spin off, and in The Avengers he´s part of a group, casually he appears in the fourth film too, Thor.
I must say I enjoy most with those fourth parts of M:I and Bourne films than with their predecessors, Jeremy rescues movie franchises as anyone. I love his action performances, he gives to this characters much more personality and nuance than these films usually have.
Would be nice to see him in a new original franchise on the absolute leading main character.
I can;t email this to you at the moment.
Jeremy on Ben Affleck’s direction http://www.entertainmentwise.com/news/90778/Blake-Lively-and-Jeremy-Renner-Slam-Ben-Afflecks-Bad-Directing-Habits
I saw the slam on Ben Affleck – bad directing habit, repeats every ones lines, hard habits are hard too break,BUT I can’t wait til new movie of H&G comes out, just too see him performan.I wish him the best. But he looks tired.
As I said over at the forum, I’m bummed that the date got pushed back, because I’ve been eagerly anticipating this movie for awhile now. I don’t want to wait another two weeks! *sob*
As for the “slam” on Affleck…I wouldn’t really call it a “slam.” They were just commenting on an annoying habit he has.
