While The Fighter director David O. Russell’s latest feature Silver Linings Playbook heads into awards season as an early frontrunner, the filmmaker is currently busy firming things up for his next feature. Previously referred to as American Bullshit, the film is based on a real-life undercover sting operation set up in the 1980s by a con artist working for the FBI who rooted out corruption in Congress. There’s been a bit of confusion regarding who’s playing what role, with Jeremy Renner recently reported as replacing Christian Bale in the film, but today the producers have announced that Renner, Bale, Bradley Cooper, and Amy Adams will all be starring in the pic.
Hit the jump for the details regarding which characters the actors will be playing.
Bale is now back onboard the project as the con artist, while Adams will play his mistress/partner in crime. They’ll be teaming up with an out of control federal agent played by Cooper, with Renner set as the passionate and volatile leader of the New Jersey state assembly who is also the local hero and mayor of impoverished Camden. That’s one hell of a cast, and I can’t wait to see what Russell will turn out given the crazy material. Russell wrote the script with Eric Warren Singer, based on Singer’s original screenplay. Production is set to begin in mid-February.

Aw, that means Jeremy doesn’t have the lead role. Darn.
Ewww., there is a new feature or there seems to be a new feature that shows how many times you look at this site. Yikes, that may make me look like a stalker instead of a curiousiter-lol. What is the title of this film, why is it taking so long to name it?
Well it says that his character is at the “epicenter” of the entire story, so the role can’t be *that* minor.
@Erica no new features have been added yet, we are still working on the new design. We can’t wait to launch the new design!
Also, don’t worry – we will never disclose any our visitors’ private information.
We soon find that out of all of it.

When I google (Jeremy lee renner) the website will come up and on the bottom it will say you have visited this site many times (lol) and it will say when the last time I was on this site. I don’t remember seeing that…or maybe I was never paying attention before. Sorry, I am jumping the gun! I will shut up now!=)
I hope our JLR gets a lot of screen time in this, but I will say I like this whole bit of casting. Should be great! They are saying release in late 2013. I know it’s way early, but maybe they are considering it as an Oscar contender?
Hi Erica – I think the count is done by google rather than this website. I too was a tad concerned in the change in roles but Jeremy’s character is described as “passionate and volatile” and being as coolshades says the “epicentre” so should be interesting. Also the FBI agent is described as “out of control” don’t like the sound of that for Jeremy. And after The Bourne Legacy he probably wants a break from being the centre of attention with the PR side of things.
It looks like Jeremy will be playing the bad guy in this movie. He may be playing Angelo J. Errichetti, who was involved in the bribery scandal. After all the good guy roles he’s recently played, we finally see him as a bad guy again. I usually root for the good guys in movies, so it’s gonna be hard to root against Jeremy. What the hell am I saying?! I’ll always root for Jeremy!
Thanks Samantha, I recently figured that out. lol
is this a period piece or modern day?
Bertha, Abscam occured during the late 1970′s to 1980. We may see a lot of bad haircuts and bell bottom pants in this movie. I think this would be considered a period piece since it would involve costumes. The 70′s had a lot of bad styling choices.
oh haha! i just noticed it said 1980s at the top… i sort of just skimmed the article. too lazy yesterday – i had the dumbs. so jeremy will either have a mullet or some serious feathering. haha!
I don’t think a mayor (politician) would sport a mullet. I would go with the feathering!=)
Goregeous, sexy sweet prince. ☺xoxoxoxo
oh man
Renner in some 1980s get up *shivers oh man dont make him look terrible
